I recently released my first video that uses some of the powerful features in After Effects. What really caught my attention was the power of colorizing effects and levels: it really is a lot like Photoshop for video, but with the ability to animate all of the controls.
I feel kind of like Pippen looking into Gandalf’s Seeing Stone.
For my first video I used a smidgen of the power of AE. I wanted to try and achieve a vaguely uncomfortable colour cast to accentuate the dramatic revelations. I think I might have gone a little overboard with the blue, but it certainly helped to give a consistency to each of the shots and it’s given me a great insight into how movies get that “movie” look.
I really want to start exploring more of the power and my next video is already shaping up to use masks, keying and the Roto Brush tool to cut people out of their original setting.
